If I arrange to have my existing resin driveway resurfaced, will it still be permeable?
This will largely depend on what the original driveway surface is. If it is resin bound, then rainwater should still be able to permeate through with a thin resurfacing layer.
If you opt for resin bound over resin bonded, this will cause issues, as the original layer is not permeable. As long as this original layer had adequate drainage measures installed, this will continue to be the route for surface water to follow.
Do I need to seal a resin driveway surface?
Sealing is for non-permeable driveways such as imprinted concrete, concrete driveways and tarmac, which will certainly need sealing to avoid your driveway discolouring (imprinted concrete) or breaking. It also supplies a defensive finish to your drive, so if fluid is dropped onto its surface the sealer will delay the spilt liquid getting into the concrete and creating an irreversible discolouring.
For a resin driveway, if your existing resin surface is resin bound, applying a sealant may have a negative effect on its permeability, so we would generally advise against this. For a resin bonded surface, the additional application of a sealant will help protect the top surface and aid adhesion of the top-level aggregates.
